About our local area

The rural parish of Myerscough and Bilsborrow covers an area of 1440 hectares in the  north west of Lancashire, between Lancaster to the north, the Forest of Bowland to the east, Preston to the south and Blackpool to the west.  It comprises the historic townships of Myerscough and Bilsborrow, the hamlet of Brock and the western fringe of Barton village.
 
The Duchy of Lancaster has had important land holdings in Myerscough since 1267. .

Myerscough and Bilsborrow can boast some of the best facilities for sport and leisure in the county at Myerscough College, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, Northern Microlight School, Roebuck Hotel, on the Lancaster Canal and at The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre.  There is a Caravan Club Certificated Location at Olde Duncombe House by Bilsborrow Wharf.

The parish has an impressive Roll of Honour and is home to a range of listed buildings and places of worship. We are also proud to be the home of many successful businesses and organisations, some of which are listed below:

Myerscough College & University Centre

Myerscough College has a major presence in the parish and is of national standing. The campus is excellently resourced and the College estate extends to 605 hectares. It offers both further and higher education. It is an Associate School of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and there are special links with two universities in the USA. The campus has extensive residential accommodation.

Schools

There are Church of England and Catholic Primary Schools in Barton and a Church of England Primary School in Bilsborrow. The latter, founded in 1718, was endowed by the late John Cross of Myerscough. There is nursery provision in Barton, Bilsborrow and at Myerscough College.

Guys Thatched Hamlet

Guy's Thatched Hamlet is a popular attraction comprising Owd Nell's Tavern, Guy's Eating Establishment, Tommy Hatton's, Guy's Lodgings, Guy's Cricket Ground and Guy's Bowling Green. It is under the personal supervision of the owners, Roy, Shaun & Kirk Wilkinson.

Barton Grange Garden Centre, Marina and Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre

Barton Grange Garden Centre, marina and Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre are located on a 52-acre site in the parish at Brock.  The Director in charge is Mr Guy Topping.

Bilsborrow Village Hall
